The Developer’s Festival of Place Bytesize with Dr. Bridget Snaith sees the landscape architect share her research on the usage of London’s Olympic Park and how the way we shape the public realm in our parks and green spaces can discriminate by design.

The talk is a free taster of the Festival of Place event on 13 November.

As we aim for inclusive spaces, by design and distribution, we are still delivering unequal access.

The 30 minute talk is followed by a Q&A session. Drawing on ongoing research, Bridget argues that white privilege in the professions shaping the public realm is at least partly to blame for the design decisions made in park provision, along with the cultural assumptions we make about values and practices.

As industries and institutions globally are reflecting on their role in sustaining racial and ethnic inequalities, she will explore how placemaking industry can do more. It is time to recognise the impact of working in an ’echo chamber’, and to reflect on how we can deliver on the promise of the Equality Act 2010.

Bytesize offers a free taste of the major annual event, Festival of Place, now scheduled for 13 November, 2020.
