The project will deliver a comprehensive wayfinding strategy for the town centre [Deadline 14 September]
West Oxfordshire District Council seeks tenders for the design, manufacture and installation of new wayfinding signage in Witney, the district’s principal town.
The project will deliver a comprehensive wayfinding strategy in and around the Town Centre as part of wider placemaking efforts. £84,000 in Section 106 funding is expected to be made accessible for the scheme that aims to increase accessibility and exploration in the town.
Outside of helping people navigate the town more easily, the purpose of the scheme is to encourage walking between destinations and increase dwell time. This hopes to improve awareness of local attractions, services and amenities to help support local businesses.
Decorative features to celebrate Witney’s heritage have been proposed as an option to further support the long-term vitality of the town centre by providing durable, low maintenance assets.
Oxfordshire County Council were awarded £1.98m from the Government’s Active Travel fund and have already made waves in improving Witney’s High Street and Market Square which has seen footway widening, resurfacing and public realm works complete in almost half the town.
